Bottom line: Roomba maker iRobot has introduced its most advanced combination robot vacuum and mop. The new 2-in-1 is perhaps the company’s first offering that truly delivers on the promise of a (nearly) fully automated cleaning experience.
The Roomba Combo 10 Max Robot + AutoWash Dock, as the name suggests, is capable of vacuuming and mopping in a single unit. The unit’s four-stage cleaning system automatically adjusts to different floor types and deploys the correct tool and method for each job. Carpet Boost, for example, increases suction power on carpet while SmartScrub can mop back and forth with consistent pressure to banish stubborn messes like spilled coffee.
When transitioning from hard floors to carpets, the Combo 10 Max lifts its mop head to the top of the bot to ensure carpets don’t get wet. On hard surfaces, it can vacuum and mop simultaneously for greater efficiency. The bot leverages various sensors to pinpoint dirt on the floor and can make multiple passes over those areas, just like a human would.
Its true appeal, however, comes on the maintenance side. Most robo cleaners require routine maintenance to empty the dust bin, swap the mopping pads, refill the mopping solution tank, and so on. iRobot’s latest handles all of these chores automatically – it can vacuum and mop multiple floor types, automatically recharge itself, wash and dry its own mopping pad, and empty and self-clean its onboard dirt canister.
The AutoWash Dock can hold up to 60 days’ worth of dirt and debris, and up to a full week of water to clean mopping pads. The dock even cleans itself after every pad wash to prevent dirt buildup. Smart home aficionados will appreciate the fact that the Roomba Combo 10 Max will be Matter-enabled by Q4 2024, and is also compatible with the Apple Home ecosystem.
The Roomba Combo 10 Max is available to pre-order now in the US and Canada. Pricing is set at $1,399, and shipments are expected to go out in early August.
